About PHUUM
About PHUUM in three sentences: PHUUM is a brand of SWKM GmbH in Munich, Germany, run by Sebastian Kaiser, who also writes the PHUUM Journal. PHUUM makes wired USB-C in-ear monitors on a hand-knotted bead cable. This page states who makes PHUUM, how testing is planned and which rules the Journal follows.
Who we are
PHUUM is a brand of SWKM GmbH, Kathi-Kobus-Straße 21, 80797 München, Germany. The company is entered in the commercial register at Amtsgericht München under HRB 206143. The managing director is Sebastian Kaiser.
Sebastian Kaiser runs PHUUM and writes the Journal. If you want to know who makes PHUUM, or who is responsible for a sentence on this site, the answer is the same in both cases.
What we make
PHUUM makes wired USB-C in-ear monitors on a hand-knotted bead cable. The first release is called Drop 001. It is limited, and each piece is individually numbered.
Drop 001 is not on sale yet. A waitlist is open on the home page. PHUUM is wired only: no battery, no Bluetooth. What that category is, and how to choose within it, is explained on the wired in-ear monitors page.
How we test
Measurements for Drop 001 have not been published yet. We say so plainly, because a section called "How we test" should not suggest results that do not exist.
The plan has two parts. The first is to measure on an occluded-ear simulator according to IEC 60318-4, the standard for the device used to measure in-ear earphones. The second is to compare by level-matched blind listening. Level-matched means both earphones play equally loud, and blind means the listener does not know which one is playing. Results will be published only once that work is done.
Until then, PHUUM publishes no scores, rankings or frequency graphs.
How we write
The PHUUM Journal explains how wired and USB-C audio works in general, for example what the DAC in a USB-C plug does. These rules apply to every guide:
- Guides are not product claims about Drop 001.
- No specifications are stated before they are confirmed.
- No health claims.
- Competitor products are not named or ranked.
- Corrections can be sent to hello@phuum.com. They are fixed with the date of the change.
